President’s Message by REA President
Mike Bresnahan

Hello, welcome to summer in San Diego. For this newsletter I want to remind the members of just one of the advantages of joining REA. What I am referring to is the Retiree Issues Task Force (RITF). This is a group composed of representatives of REA, the Retired Fire and Police Association, SDCERS, and the City of San Diego. It has recently been expanded to include representatives from Benefit Outsourcing Solutions (BOS) since that firm has taken over the retiree health administrative tasks previously performed by SDCERS staff.

The group meets several times a year and it provides a forum for a variety of retiree issues to be presented directly to the administration of the City of San Diego as well as SDCERS. For example, at the most recent RITF meeting we reviewed several different issues such as the ongoing transition of retiree health administration from SDCERS to BOS (which is proceeding smoothly), a dependent verification audit performed by city staff, and the timing of the 2026 retiree open enrollment period. During these meetings we are able to discuss matters from the retiree perspective. This provides the opportunity to talk about issues that directly impact our benefits and quality of life. By being a member of REA, you help strengthen our influence and ensure that our concerns are heard.
Thank you.
