What does “Back To School Time”/End of Summer mean to you? As a retiree and not attending or teaching school, I read the end of summer adverts and articles with some nostalgia but mostly as though there’s another world out there that I don’t (have to) relate to – except for some involvement with the grandkids. I guess I’m counting my blessings. As thoroughly grownup retirees, we can have a much different relationship with the world around us than when we were tied to a job. For example, we can avoid car-travel congestion by doing our trips during off-peak times or by slower transit. We can visit the beach, golf course, movie theatre or other recreational activities when most others are working – weekdays and afternoons. Even weekday morning or afternoon shopping – not the online stuff, real in-person shopping – can be quick and easy. ‘See you at the mall?
