President’s Message by REA President
Mike Bresnahan

I want to write about a few issues for this month’s newsletter. First, we are in the middle of the open enrollment period and I want to mention again the San Diego Public Employee Benefit Association (SDPEBA). As a reminder, SDPEBA is comprised of members of the following associations: MEA, REA, Retired Fire and Police Association, AFSCME Local 127 (both Active and Retired), San Diego Police Officers Association and the SD County Probation Officers Association. It is important to know that as a member of REA you are automatically a member of SDPEBA, nothing else is required. Your membership in REA is important to our organization, and we strive to make it a positive experience for you. As part of this we have teamed up with other retired and active employee organizations to form SDPEBA.

Due to your membership in SDPEBA you have access to valuable benefits at competitive rates. There are quite a few benefits available to REA members such as dental, vision and/or legal plans, home and auto insurance, identity protection as well as many other benefits. Information about any or all of the benefits available to you can be found at www.sdpeba.org or by calling (888)–315–8027. SDPEBA’s representatives are ready to help answer your questions and help you take advantage of these various plans. You may find that one or more of these benefits is of value to you.

Second, REA has its annual food drive. There are unfortunately too many people in San Diego that are challenged to pay for the food they need. Our REA food drive strives to help fill that gap. It began on October 1, 2025, and will run for two months. To start donating click on the following link and follow the prompts at  https://fooddriveonline.org/sandiegofoodbank/REA. Our goal is $6,000. Through the volunteer efforts of the many food bank supporters and the buying power of the Food Bank organization they are able to convert that into 20,000 meals for our neighbors who need help. Please give generously if you can do so. We will provide information about this effort over time.

Finally, another reminder that our November meeting will be on the 18th. This is due to the second Tuesday in November 2025 being Veterans Day and as such it is a city holiday. As a result, our November meeting is being moved to the THIRD Tuesday of the month (November 18th, 2025). Mark it on your calendars! Thank you.
