President Mike Bresnahan’s Message
I want to give a brief update on several items discussed in previous monthly reports. First, we have described in past reports a City RFP related to evaluating the potential for a private company to take over the healthcare tasks currently performed by SDCERS. City staff has completed the review of the responses and is in the process of moving this item to the City Council. While I have not yet seen this item on a Council agenda, I understand that it will soon appear before Council for their final approval. Again, it is important to remember that this RFP does not affect your health benefits rather it relates to a private company taking over the tasks currently performed by SDCERS. We will keep you informed as best we can about this matter.
Next, I thought it was time to remind members of their membership in the San Diego Public Employee Benefit Association (SDPEBA). SDPEBA is comprised of the members of MEA, REA, Retired Fire and Police Association, Local 127 (both Active and Retired), SDPOA and the SD County Probation Officers Association. Your membership in SDPEBA is automatic with your REA membership. Nothing else is required. There are quite a number of benefits available. Information about all of this can be found at www.sdpeba.org or by calling (888) 315-8027. You may find that one or more of the plans could be of value to you.
Finally, for the past several years our organization has sponsored various events as part of an Image Enhancement Effort. Several of these have been recorded and are on REA’s YouTube site. I encourage you to look at them. I think you will be pleased. Thanks.
