President Mike Bresnahan’s Message

Hello, I hope all is well and you are enjoying the weather as it begins to warm up. I want to give a brief update on a few items previously mentioned in the newsletter.
As you may recall, the City issued a Request for Proposal to seek an outside firm to perform the retiree healthcare administrative services previously performed by SDCERS staff, and a company named Benefit Outsourcing Solutions, Inc. (BOS) was awarded the contract. The transition from SDCERS to BOS has started and the meetings seem to be going very well. The people from BOS are organized and responsive and have made a very favorable impression. It is still early in the process, and I am unaware of a transition date.
Next, in part because of the focus on the transition to BOS in 2024, the City has elected to extend the contracts for the current retiree healthcare providers for an additional year. I understand that the providers have agreed to this one-year extension. An RFP for healthcare providers will now go out in 2025 to take effect in calendar 2026.
Finally, as per a previous e-mail sent out to REA members, we are now in the REA Summer Food Drive with the San Diego Food Bank. Later in this newsletter you will see more information about our efforts regarding this and a description of how to contribute. I encourage you to participate if you are in a position to do so. Thank you.
