President Dick Wilken’s Message

Greetings. I hope you are having a great summer.

As I write this I am with family in northern Virginia. Should be back for our August meeting.

I understand that our July General Member meeting went well. The Board thinks that it is important for our members to meet in person when feasible. I hope to see you on the 9th.

Under Jim’s effective leadership, REA’s membership has grown significantly and we have increased our Advocacy focus on behalf of retirees. This includes strengthening our relationship with SDCERS management and staff; regularly collaborating with MEA management; joining the Californians for Retirement Security, a coalition of more than 1.6 million Californians representing public employees and retirees; and partnering with the Retired Fire and Police of San Diego (RFPA) and the Retired Employees of San Diego County (RESDC) to form the San Diego Retirement Security Roundtable. The Roundtable meets in San Diego twice each year and consists of public retiree groups at the local, California state and federal levels. Jim is looking forward to continued REA growth and success in the years to come.
