City of San Diego Retired Employees Association

August General Meeting Minutes by Secretary, Brad Jacobsen

President Mike Bresnahan informed attendees that over 50% of the lunch RSVPs were made through our new online payment system, STRIPE. He encouraged members to try it for future RSVPs.

Past President Dick Wilken informed members that at its March meeting, the REA Board voted to maintain the Legal Fund at no less than $500,000. To meet this goal, one dollar per month per member will be directed to the Legal Fund in any month when the Legal Fund is less than $500,000. Any funds not directed to the Legal Fund will be directed to the Operating Budget. This proposal will be presented to the membership at an upcoming meeting for a vote of approval.

Natasha Collura of SDCERS informed members that the Open Enrollment period will begin in October and end in November. The Health Fair and the SDCERS Annual Member Meeting will be on October 21st at the Balboa Park Club.

PROGRAM

Due to illness, the program was altered. Gabby Podegracz of Partner in Aging gave an overview of her organization and its services to seniors. She stressed that they do not provide direct services, but serve as a “matchmaker” between the senior client and services such as in-home care providers and senior living facilities. Partner in Aging can also serve as a patient advocate in hospitals, and can provide assistance in moving and/or houseselling.
