General Meeting Minutes
President Mike Bresnahan informed members that REA needs assistance with some of the IT tasks that John Tsiknas performed before he “retired” from the Board. Members who are interested should contact Mike. He also encouraged members to invite fellow retirees to join REA. Finally, he reported that our Legal Defense Fund investments are now over $400K.
Gregg Rademacher of SDCERS informed members that the City, Port District, and Airport Authority all made their payments into the Retirement Fund.
PROGRAM
The program was Robyn Wapner from the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). She explained that the SANDAG Board is comprised of a representative from each of the cities in the county, with the City & the County having two members each. SANDAG is responsible for long-range transportation planning, construction of transportation infrastructure, and land preservation. She said that SANDAG’s current projects include: improving train service between San Diego and Los Angeles (double-tracking, cliff erosion); a transit connection to the airport; bikeways throughout the county; an express light-rail line between South Bay and Sorrento Valley; and a new border crossing at Otay Mesa East. She also reported that SANDAG operates the SR-125 toll road after purchasing it from a private entity. The SANDAG website shows projects by neighborhood.
