City of San Diego Retired Employees Association
September Meeting Minutes by Board Member Stacey LoMedico
President Mike Bresnahan reminded attendees that because of Veterans’ Day the November meeting has been rescheduled for November 18. He also reminded attendees that we have a food drive going online with a $6000 goal.
Gregg Rademacher of SDCERS informed attendees that SDCERS is producing new educational videos via AI, and that initial audits suggest that there may be an Annual Supplemental Benefit check.
Dick Wilken informed attendees that our Legal Defense Fund now has over $500,000 and is growing. The Investment Committee and the full REA Board are proposing a bylaws change to reallocate the $1 in dues directed to the Legal Defense Fund into general operations instead, unless the Legal Defense Fund falls below $500,000. Members were asked to approve the following changes to Rule VII, Section 1 of the bylaws:
It is the goal of the Association to maintain a Legal Fund of no less than $500,000. To meet this goal, one dollar per member per month shall be directed to the Legal Fund in any month that the Fund is less than $500,000 to be used to protect retirees’ interests.
The proposed change was approved by the members in attendance of the meeting.
