General Meeting Minutes

President Mike Bresnahan encouraged members to contribute to REA’s food drive at the San Diego Food Bank.

Natasha Collura of SDCERS reported that retirees’ 1099 forms have been sent out, and that the transition to the new health care coordinator went well.

PROGRAM

The program was the annual visit by Scott Lewis of Voice of San Diego. He spoke about how voters simply didn’t vote for their usual affinities, leaving a lot of City programs unfunded and creating a budget crisis. He also noted that the proponents of the Prop E sales tax increase didn’t stress how much its revenue was needed to fund existing programs/projects.

He also spoke about a “crisis in humanity” that doesn’t provide assistance to unhoused people who aren’t victims of a disaster or pandemic, and those who are trying to recover from drug addiction and who have no place to go for relief. He opined that smart and wealthy residents could step up to help with these problems.
