Board Meeting Minutes

NOTE: All votes were unanimous unless otherwise noted

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President Jim Baross at 9:30am.

Because there was not a quorum, no actions were taken.

Board Members Present: Nancy Acevedo, Jim Baross, Mike Bresnahan, Karen Butler, Joan Hernandez, Brad Jacobsen, Ted Myrus, Dave Twomey, and Janet Wood

Guests Present: Art Brown, Joe Flynn

AGENDA: There were no changes to the agenda.

MINUTES: Approval of the minutes of the November Board meeting were deferred to February

TREASURER’S REPORT: There was discussion about the format of the various reports. This discussion will be resolved at the Audit Committee meeting.

There was also discussion about whether should or legally can have a contingency reserve fund. It was noted that we often budget more for expenditures than we actually spend.

Approval of the Treasurer’s Report was deferred to February.

COMMUNICATIONS: None

RETIREMENT BOARD REPRESENTATIVE’S REPORT

Charles Hogquist’s level of participation with REA will be discussed at the RITF.

DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS

  1. It was reported that Integrated Labor Solutions may propose a new email system, which could increase our cost; also, they need newsletter text earlier.
  2. The Holiday Party is scheduled for December 5 at the Bali Hai. Good news: the minimum has dropped from $2000 to $1500.

INFORMATION ITEMS: None

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Advocacy: The Committee is working on having a better presence on Twitter and Facebook, with links to our webpage. The next meeting is January 26, 9:30am, at the Mission Valley Library.

Retiree Issues Task Force (RITF): The next meeting will be January 19. Mike will replace Karen on the RITF.

Other Retired Public Employee Associations: No report

Active Employee Associations: No report.

Communications: No report.

Membership: We gained 44 new members in 2016 for a total of 1447 members.

Sunshine: No report.

Newsletter: Deadline for next issue is February 18.

General Membership Programs: Dave is finalizing the programs for 2017.
